If you can’t enjoy a cup of coffee, you won’t be able to enjoy having a yacht.

Isn’t it a simple way to articulate the whole idea of contentment, gratitude for what’s already here — so that we could keep growing and striving further?

And yet, every week coaching my clients, I hear ‘if only I…”.

“If only I could have a team.”

“If only I could have more hours in my day.”

“If only I could meet a good business partner to start a business.”

“If only I had an MBA.”

The list is endless, and it is fascinating how creative we can be when it comes to ‘if only’ statements.

Let me put it this way –

We do not experience life. We experience what we focus on.

Ask yourself honestly — where is your focus of attention?

The chances are that it is on seeing what’s missing (‘if only I had…’) or on what could go wrong ‘what if…’ statements.

Notice it. And rewrite it.

Embrace what you already have in front of you and embrace the discomfort of not knowing what’s ahead. You got it.

What is it that you can’t enjoy right now?
